New Look 6104~The 53 Day Blouse

Aloha Online Ohana,

So....why did this blouse take 53 days to make?  Was it because the pattern was technically complicated?  Was it because the cherries made my eyes cross?  Was it because my machines mutinied?  How delightful it would be to blame someone or something else for the painfully slow performance!  But alas it was my own lack of sewing mojo that kept each day to a maximum of 20 or so stitches.  Miracle of miracles though, even 20 or so stitches a day can get the job done!  Without further delay let's unveil New Look 6104, view B.

I've used a cherry print, rayon cotton blend from Fabric Mart.  It has a lovely flowing drape, but it does wrinkle quite easily.  I've also used sphere-shaped black buttons to compliment the cherry print.  I cut out the size 10 and did not make any adjustments to the pattern.  The neck is finished with self-fabric bias binding.  I was concerned with whether the neckline would be too wide and gape, but I am happy to report it does not.  Here are a couple of close-ups of the back and front.

The blouse is shaped by bust darts on the front and two back darts.  It also features a shirt tail hem.
I will be making this again.  I have a hot pink print, cotton lawn, which I purchased from Gorgeous Fabrics that will be perfect for this pattern.  However, I will be making view C, since a more structured sleeve will work better with the cotton lawn.  Here is the blouse with a simple rtw black skirt from the Gap.  I've had this skirt for at least 9 years.  I am going to have to get some of the fabric that it is made out of, because it has held up incredibly well.  It is made from a rayon/polyester/spandex blend.
Black and white can be a little boring, so I thought I'd end this post with the beauty of God's creation, Blue Ginger.  It's one of my favorite flowers here in Maui.  For those of you who have emailed me, thank you.  I'm looking forward to the creative year ahead now that my mojo is back!

Black and white might be boring but it does look smart. Nice job on the blouse.

Welcome back Shannon! This top is a great way to start your mojo again, it's really nice! Looking forward to more from you! Not to worry though, we all seem to be taking a break from sewing/blogging for a short while...we probably need it with our lifestyles being as busy as they are!

Welcome back! I am loving black and white graphic tops at the moment. This would also look fantastic with bright red or bright blue or bright green bottoms.

Welcome back. Cute top. I've tried to grew blue gingers twice but without success. I'm a pretty lazy gardener. They are stunning when in flower.

I was wondering about you; glad only the mojo went missing :-) ! The blouse is very cute and versatile, and the flower is amazing. It's snowing here so a beautiful flower pic is just what I needed!

Pretty blouse and it definitely shows that your sewing mojo is back. Such a lovely flower. Nothing is blooming here, although this time I figured crocuses should've made an appearance by now.

Glad to have you back! It is a cute blouse, too bad the fabric wrinkles a lot. I notice that I wear clothes less when I know they will require ironing!

What a fun blouse! I thought it was polka dots, but it's even cuter when I saw it was cherries.
